Dr. Weil's Anti-Inflammatory Diet
The Anti-inflammatory diet is designed by Andrew Weil. He is a Harward educated doctor, who believes that certain food can cause or prevent systemic inflammation. This diet is especially designed to improve physical and mental health. Depending of dieters’ size, activity, age and gender, the daily intake of calories is 2000-3000. About 20-30% of calories come from proteins, 30% from fat and 40-50% from carbs. This diet is based on the Mediterranean diet, but there are some changes. For example, dieters can eat dark chocolate and drink green tea. The eating plan provides lots of fruit, which is important for phytonutrients. According to Weil, this compound is effective against some degenerative disease and some types of cancer.
Using this diet, you will cut down ‘’bad’’ fat. So, eating butter, fatty meats and cream is forbidden. On the other side, you will eat a lot of avocados, olive oil and nuts. They are full with omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation. The best source of omega 3 fatty acids is cold water fish, especially salmon, herring and sardines.
The benefit of this diet is that you can shape this diet as you want. This is very important, because many dieters don’t like too many predefined rules! They want freedom (a bit of it) in choosing what they can eat. But, this diet can be expensive. And, although you can shape it, it requires a lot of work.
This diet will satisfy your daily need for fat. It will also satisfy protein requirements, but barely! The daily intake of fiber and vitamin B12 will be higher than recommended as well. But, this diet cannot provide enough: carbohydrates, potassium and calcium. The worst flaw is that there so no vitamin D in this eating plan!
