Refined sugars are connected to depression
When you are feeling down with the blues and maybe experiencing symptoms of depression, there may be some causes that are not just due to chemical changes in the brain. In fact, there are many things that have been linked to depression. One substance linked to depression is refined sugars which depletes the levels of beta-endorphins in your system.
If you are contemplating eliminating refined sugars, you need to keep your blood sugar levels steady. You can do this quite easily if you eat breakfast every morning and eat regular and timely meals each day. Some things you should eat are whole grains, roots, green vegetables, yellow vegetables. The second thing you can do is to improve your levels of serotonin. You can do this by including protein-rich foods, such as beans, cheese, eggs, and meat (including chicken and fish). A few hours after you eat protein you should eat a complex carbohydrate, such as potatoes, corn, yams, or lima beans. These can be eaten cooked, canned, or raw and will help you feel full longer.
If you are having symptoms of depression, first consult your doctor and then eliminate refined sugars from your diet.
